little desire
what happens when you don't feel like reading God's Word? it's like every time i do spend time reading the bible, i go in with high expectations. i mean, it's God's word for me! it's supposed to give me life and joy, it's supposed to protect me and warn me, it's supposed to give light to my eyes (like it says in Psalm 19)... that's all great stuff! and i want it! but lately i've been disappointed. no great revelation, no joy from reading the Word, no light... sigh.
so what? do i try harder? pray harder? believe more?
i guess building a relationship isn't easy. even with people. it takes lots of effort, and sometimes you feel stuck. but you gotta keep working at it... maybe you don't see the fruit now, but it'll come.
but then right when you're discouraged (like as i'm writing this blog), God sends someone to msn with you, someone that you haven't talked to for months. and it's their enthusiasm for God and their testimony of His goodness that inspires me to persevere. somehow He knows just what i need.
"for your Father knows what you need before you ask him"

Hey
yeah I guess there is no formula - the right atmosphere? the right music? the right scripture? what about the right heart? but when is our heart ever perfectly "right". There are always distractions that drag us in all kinds of directions away from God. But like u said...we are building a relationship with God - it's hard and it takes work - maybe setting God goals/life goals will help focus your relationship with Him.
"My goal is GOd Himself, not joy nor peace. nor even blessing, but Himself, my God" Oswald Chambers
Goals that are things that are in your control and that you choose to do. Here's something I'm reading:
"It is very important to discern the difference between goals and desires(something I want that I cannot control) in our life. A goal is something that I can be totally responsible for...Whenever we try to make a desire a goal and someone blocks it, we get angry and frustrated - mainly because we aren't getting our own way"
We are supposed to give our desires up to God but we can set goals...still thinking about mine.
Yay to friends who appear out of nowhere and encourage us :)

give it time. you'll get a 'kick in the butt" eventually.
