in search for life

how did God create me to live? that's what i'm searching for... hopefully we can help each other out, in our search for purpose, for fulfillment, for freedom, for true life.

one hundred

it is 12:30 am on a sunday morning, and i need to be at church in surrey at 8:30am for a worship practice... meaning i'll need to wake up at 6:45am (meaning, i'll have to set my alarm for 6:18am, because i press my 9 minute snooze button an average of 3 times before i ACTUALLY wake up).

meaning i need to be asleep now.

but i can't cuz my brain is going at 100 km/h (that's 62.14 miles per hour for our american readers). and it doesn't help that i'm hungry.

(warning: as i reread this entire blog, i realized how my thoughts kind of jumped around, sometimes in a very random sequence)

so after lying in bed thinking for 30 minutes, i finally realized i was getting no where. i got out of bed (that took alot of effort) and heated up some pasta (leftover from monday evening's cooking... which, by the way, was the only day of the week i actually cooked) and started blogging.

why is my mind going at 100 km/h (62.41 mph)? it's partly because i was reading a book previous to my trying to sleep ("leadership" by rudolph giuliani, previous major of new york). i love reading books that have insight, have new ideas, that prompt me to think. after reading a chapter on "accountability", a flood of new ideas came to mind. these ideas revolved around my personal life, work, church, and family. all were ideas that might improve the functions/operations of things, to make people's lives easier and better and more effective (i.e. shortening the church's monthly council meetings, but at the same time getting more accomplished... this in itself has been one of the great unsolved mysteries in the church).

there has been a theme of leadership in my life recently. there's the spiritual leadership conference i went to in april (my apologies to you if you were anticipating my notes from seminars 2-6, that i may never end up posting, but please talk to me if u want to know anything concerning it). then there's this book i'm reading. and then a citywide leadership prayer breakfast i attended on may 28th. and lastly leading an event called "love surrey" for my church which happened this weekend (i have stuff to share about this event, some of it is related to "the apprentice"... but i may not get around to doing that, so if you're interested about it, ask me, and i'll be more than willing to share)

hm. i wonder what God's up to?

one thing that excites me is my job. it's more than i expected. all throughout school, i often hear complaints from people about being stuck in an office from 9-5 for the rest of your life. that's definately not something to look forward too after graduation. and from my experiences of summer office jobs, this boring lifestyle seemed likely. but after 6 months at my current job (i'm in operations at canaan shipping & modern terminal, a freight forwarding company and a warehouse/stuffing facility... want to understand what that means? again, i'm only a phone call or email or visit away. don't be shy)

where was it? i get side-tracked alot (as you can see by all the parentheses i use)

ah yes, being surprised at my current job. i'm beginning to like it more and more. i like it so much that i don't mind thinking about my job after-hours (like now). in fact, i get some of my best ideas when i'm NOT at work. it's kinda of exciting. like this evening, i was talking to my friend jeremy about calculus and derivatives and how that applies to managing the inventory at my warehouse. (boy do i sound nerdy). but that's exciting because it's something i learned in university, and i'm ACTUALLY getting to use it! (and i thought my calculus 101 final at UBC would be the last of calculus i ever saw in my life)

another thing i'm excited about is learning more about the person God made me to be. in other words, understanding myself, why i do things, etc. i have a great interest in people, how they make decisions, what motivates them, etc. and i have a great interest in the way people relate with one another (i had an especially interesting conversation with jon lo today about asking friends for favours and the whole workings behind it). i think understanding one's self is a great insight, because it's a clue to the mystery that is God's will. what should i do with my life? well, one thing i'm learing is this: one thing i'm going to do with my life is invest my talents. i'm going to bring as much value to others and to the world as i can with what i'm given. (a quick look into www.biblegateway.com to find the reference to the talent parable... and it is matthew 25).

hm. it's 12:54, and i'm still not tired. aiya. u know how it's like. when u have something important to do the next day, and u know u need to sleep because u need energy the next day... and then u can't sleep? very frustrating. that's me now.

well, i guess it doesn't help writing blogs, cuz that generates more ideas, which causes my mind to continue turning... which doesn't help me trying to get to sleep.

so one of the conclusions for today, don't read a thought-stimulating book when you're trying to fall asleep.

whoa... i'm still going. hm. maybe i named this blog "100" because i'm going to write about 100 things. then again, maybe that's not such a great idea, especially when i'm trying to sleep. maybe i'll go read leviticus, that always seems to put me to sleep.

so off i go. good night to you, sleep well.
"for he grants sleep to those he loves" Psalm 127:2

and i KNOW God loves you.

The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.' His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'

i'm happy to know that your place in this life is becoming clearer. actually, i'm extremely happy. :D 'cuz i totally believe that when we each are able to use our uniqueness to its fullness, God is most glorified and we're most content.
