book review

i so just finished a book (yeah, i know, i'm a slow reader, it took me 4 weeks), and i just want to write down my thoughts about the book. many times i'll read a book, and later forget how it impacted me. writing something down will help me remember.

book: A Love Worth Giving
author: Max Lucado

lucado writes about living in the overflow of God's love. his book is based on the infamous of 1 cor 13:4-8. he beautifully retells many stories from the gospels about Jesus' life, and how Jesus impacted others with His love.

i'm taken back by the descriptions of Jesus in this book. the way that Jesus shows kindness, gentleness, patience, protection, loyalty... in a very genuine, personal way. when i start understanding how Jesus came down to our world to interact with us, to love us, i gain strength.

just think of the impact of human love. because my family and friends have shown me love, i have strength to handle the rudeness or criticisms or rejections of other people. it doesn't matter so much because i have family and friends that love me, and i have no need to retaliate. now if I understood, knew, and experienced the unconditional and vast love Jesus has for me, it becomes easy to love others. it becomes easy to be patient, be kind, etc.

lucado ends his book with this: "we will receive first so we can give later. we will drink deeply from heaven's endless love. and when we do, we will discover a love worth giving."
